this street used to be underwater which s why the building looks crooked...
A very pretty building in plaza mayor
I think this says something about the City being built on Water and the walls being made of fire. This is because their is a lot of water under the city (even though it is unusable because it is contaminated) and the stones they used to build the city were the stone you would use to start fires so when people would attack and hit arrows off the stone walls it would start fires.
This is the Oldest restaurant in the world...
see proof!!!
this was just bizarre...I think we should all put the sign outside our houses because it's true Hemingway never ate at my house...
This guy on this sign was the Spanish equivalent of Robin Hood (except he was real) he would take money from the rich and give it to the poor, he never used violence and he lived off rich women...he's considered somewhat of a hero...
inside this glass is the old remnants of original buildings in Madrid....
and there is this statue looking into it...don't know why...
this symbol basically means Madrid because it was a popular place for kings to bear hunt back in the day and the 7 stars are from the constellation Ursa Major...the bear....
this is the oldest building in Madrid...
um a statue....
this is like the biggest or the second biggest palace...it's used for official business because the monarch moved somewhere else...but they have a changing of the guards ceremony just like in Buckingham Palace...and it's less crowded!!!
guards!!
seize him!!
from a distance
hmm my pictures got messed up...more changing of the guards later....um this is another palace..it took a hundred years to finish and people here think it's ugly because it has so many different styles...
a fountain...
oh here are the changing of the guards pictures...

this is the opera house...
see Opera house...
pretty flowers..
um..fountain again...
palace from a real distance...
we saw some protesters outside one of the government buildings from what our tour guide told us they were 2 unions trying to get...some rights or something..
this is the clock everyone in Spain gathers for New Years eve. They all stand in the square with a glass of wine and twelve grapes and they eat the grapes at midnight for good luck...
protesters again...they were blocking traffic lucky we were on a walking tour.
this really cool building with the same face over and over again on it.
this Queen was sort of a harlot....people didn't really like her but they have statues of her...
this is a organization that teaches about the Spanish culture...but at a very high Price accourding to our tour guide...it is named after Cervantes who is an author who wrote the 2nd most translated book...2nd to the Bible.
a very pretty building...with pretty much no purpose except to separate the banking district, the theater district and the gay district.
angry bull!!
heres a statue of the bear with the tree...
AMERICANO!!!
a forest in the middle of the city!!!
Neptune (Poseidon) God of the sea!!
another fountain...
the most expensive building in Madrid.
a government building.
a new friend..we actually made four new friends this is Pegs...the others are Sam, Alex, and Tim. We all were on the free tour together and then we ate at this authentic Spanish restaurant it was really good...
Melissa eating Salmon..she also had this seafood salad that had this really yummy sauce.
and this is my food it's some sort of plate of different meats(Pork, sausage, some sort of beef and other meats I didn't really recognize) and veggies. I also had this soup that was like Chicken noddle without the chicken....
a view from this cafe that our tour guide showed us.
the government building where they are currently (well maybe not now because it's like 10pm here but they were when this picture was taken) debating over who the next President of Spain will be.
a fountain
and statues of all the past kings in Spain (and one Queen) they were originally supposed to go on the palace but one of the Queens was afraid they would fall on her head so they were eventually put into a garden across from the palace.
outside our hostel
our hostel!!
this is where we go to use the internet....like NOW!!!um so that's it for our first real outing in Madrid....hope you have enjoyed the pictures.....um BYE!!!
